Facilities & Capabilities
CBC has two technical
laboratories in Asia Pacific Region to support our large Coatings business:
one in Singapore and one in Shanghai.
Singapore Facility
The newest laboratory in Singapore (opened August 2006) concentrates on water-based
coatings but does a small amount of solvent-based work with inorganic nano
binders and unique solvents distributed by Connell Bros. Company. This facility
serves the entire region and does specific customer-related projects as well
as projects that have use in the entire region. The sole purpose is to demonstrate
the synergistic effect of all the raw materials we supply from various multinational
principals to give our customers the right product(s) with the right performance,
at the price needed. This is our strong point and we emphasize to customers
and sales personnel to look at the final formulation cost and not the individual
products.
CBC principals are outstanding quality suppliers such as Aqualon, Rohm and
Haas Company, Elementis, Huber, Colombian, and Dow Corning. Understanding
the interactions of all the raw materials that go into a paint (coating)
is essential to deliver what the customer needs. We can test viscosity,
flow and leveling, exterior durability, scrub resistance, gloss, dirt
pick-up resistance, stain resistance, hiding and perform other routine
laboratory tests. This lab also provides sales aids. A number of outstanding
projects have already been completed in 2006.
Shanghai, China Facility
This facility (which opened in 2002) predominantly services China and concentrates
on solvent based products but occasionally will do solvent-based projects
for other countries. They specialize in formulating, training, trouble shooting,
preparation of visual sales aids and consulting. Equipment and principals
are similar to that in Singapore. This lab has done excellent work in supporting
CBC’s China business.
Personnel
Dr. Richard Martorano (a.k.a. Muhammad Ali Amin) - Asia
Pacific Regional Technical Sales Manager
Holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry from Temple University, Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania, USA and both a Masters Degree and PHD in Chemistry from Hamilton
University in USA. Dr. Martorano has been assigned numerous patents on
application and composition of matter in surface coatings area. Currently
he is the Asia Pacific Regional Technical Sales Manager for Connell Bros. Co.
a Division of Wilbur Ellis Co. and is based in Singapore. He previously worked
for Rohm and Haas Company for 41 years. Twenty eight (28) of those years
were spent in Rohm and Haas central Research Division in Spring House, Pennsylvania
in areas of decorative and protective coatings and polymers. His background
includes research, polymer development, applications, sales, marketing and technical
service; all of which are highly customer focused. He has worked on a variety
of coatings based on both solvent-borne and water-borne polymers including acrylics,
styrene/acrylics, alkyds, epoxy, vinyl, silicone, fluorocarbons, polyesters,
urethane, melamine and urea formaldehyde resins.
He has worked in the Asia Pacific Region since 1990.
Abdul Karim Bin Aman (Karim) – Laboratory Technician Singapore
Over 25 years of laboratory experience in research and development,
laboratory testing, and QC. Karim spent 14 years in Rohm and Haas
Company Plastics Division laboratory in Singapore.
Lou Logue – Shanghai Lab Manager
BS degree in Chemistry; 5 years coatings experience.
Huang Deng Fa – Consultant Shanghai Lab
Chemical Engineering Degree; 25 years coatings experience; 4 years
as a consultant.
